One of my favorite things about my camera (Nikon Coolpix 2500) is that it has a very good macro focusing mode, allowing it to take pictures of things just an inch or so from the lens. I've been having a lot of fun with this, as you can see in this gallery.
Note that almost all of these pics are scaled down from the full resolution for better web viewing. The full resolution versions are even more impressive in the amount of detail and such. If you'd like to see any of these in full resolution, just let me know.
