Bio
I was born in central Ohio and moved to Northwest Indiana (near Chicago) just before I started high school. After high school I got sucked into Chicago, specifically the University of Chicago. I studied physics and computer science there, but left after three years without a degree. (Technically, I went on leave. If you want the full story, ask.) I feel no desire or need to complete my undergraduate degree, as I have been able to do quite well for myself in the job market, but I have been considering going back to my original plan, which was to become a professor. That would require, of course, getting a Ph.D., which means going back to school. That might happen sometime in the next few years if I can swing it.
I lived in Chicago for several years after school, working as a software developer. Then, right in the middle of the dot-com boom, I moved to North Carolina with a friend to start up a new company. It was not a dot-com, but it imploded anyway when the bubble burst. (Again, ask if you want the full story.) It was a great idea and would have made us millionaires, but it didn't quite work out that way, so now I'm a corporate wage slave again, for the time being.
I miss Chicago a lot, for a lot of different reasons. I'd sort of like to go back there, but then, I sort of like certain things about where I am now better. Like, for example, the distinct lack of unbearably cold winters. I visit when I can, in the summer.
